Harris leads Trump in YouGov poll for second week in a row

Vice President Harris led former President Trump for the second week in a row in polling from The Economist/YouGov.

The poll, conducted between Aug. 4 and 6, found Harris leading Trump by 2 points among registered voters, 45 percent to 43 percent. The week before, Harris earned 46 percent support to Trump’s 44 percent among registered voters in the same poll.

Harris has had a whirlwind few weeks in the wake of former President Biden's decision to drop out of the race and endorse her. She has now become the Democratic presidential nominee and announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) as her running mate Tuesday.

In an earlier The Economist/YouGov poll from two weeks ago, Harris was 3 points behind Trump, at 41 percent support to the former president’s 44 percent support.

Trump said he was “thrilled” with the pick of Walz in a Fox News interview Wednesday morning.

“He’s a very liberal man, and he’s a shocking pick,” Trump said. “I could not be more thrilled.”

According to an average of national polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Harris is barely leading Trump, with a lead of 0.1 points. In the average, Harris garnered 47.4 percent support to Trump’s 47.3 percent.

The Economist/YouGov poll featured 1,413 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
